Being safe and saving money

By November 17, 2010March 28th, 2022Personal Insurance & Risk Management share some great tips on staying safe and saving money. Read on.

“Most insurance companies will discount your homeowner’s insurance premium if you install a security system. The reason for that is that alarm systems deter theft. Theft is one of the major covered perils (subject to deductibles, of course) on a homeowner policy.

Following are some alarm and lock systems that can save you money on your policy:

  • A standard home alarm system can save you from 5 to 20 percent on your premium depending on how sophisticated the alarm is.
  • Deadbolt locks are a simple and effective way to not only to protect your home against break ins but to save you up to 5 percent on your premiums.
  • Motion systems are devices that sense motion and immediately light up the designated area.
  • Burglar Bars may be unsightly but they are highly effective at protecting a home or residence from a break in.

Some alarm companies will also offer you a certificate which can save you up to 20% of your premium.  The important thing to note here is that whatever you decide to do to protect your home, no matter how insignificant it may seem, let your agent know about it. Let him work to obtain for you any discount you might be eligible for.”
